#SGBS21 International Trade & The Climate Emergency

International Trade is an essential part of growing the UK economy – but at what cost to the environment?

With the climate emergency already here, the business community is central to a response and call to action to reduce emissions and achieve the UK’s net zero goal by 2050. But how does a growth in international trade fit into the picture?

Goods arriving in the UK, or leaving for export must travel, sometimes sizable distances.  We can move goods by land, sea or air – but what are the factors and values we need to look at to achieve a balance between environmental management towards net zero and stimulating economic growth that is needed to maintain employment and a viable economy?

Your Brand and the Big Climate Picture

What does your brand say about your position on the environment and the Climate Emergency?

It’s not just about Images, logos, words and products.  It’s about the story your brand tells about you.

Across procurement, supply chain management, key decision taking, your position on the environment is becoming a key pillar in the thinking that your clients and prospects will be looking at.

It’s about reputation, it’s about integrity and it’s about adding reputational value to your own and your clients’ brands.

So is it something you actively manage?  Or is it something that is a vulnerability.  Beckie Smith of Flying Geese is in conversation with some businesses involved in shaping brand and thinking about what you project and how you project it when it comes to The Climate Emergency.

Events & Carbon – #SGBS21 unpacked

With the Support of County Business Shows, our Partners, Sponsors, contributors, Exhibitors and Visitors, Go Carbon Positive have been working to measure the #SGBS21 Carbon Footprint.

The event industry has a real challenge in making positive change in the Carbon Footprint it creates as so much of an event infrastructure is controlled by others – from the venue to the suppliers who make it happen and from the Exhibitors and how they approach it to the visitors and how they choose to arrive at the event.

Eoin McQuone of Go Carbon Positive gives an insight on the #SGBS21 Carbon Footprint, hosts a discussion on how the events industry can most effectively tackle reducing carbon usage and what we hope to achieve in the coming year.

Eoin McQuone, founder, Go Climate Positive

Eoin believes that building a profitable, future-proof business nowadays requires a change from the traditional model. It’s all about creating a business that not only makes a profit now but that is set up to continue to grow and flourish in a world of climate change and increasingly scarce resources.

He launched “Go Climate Positive” in February 2020 to make it easier for businesses to understand and reduce their carbon footprint with the ultimate aim of becoming Climate Positive.
